A previous Oak Brook Park District Commissioner John O’Brien moved to another state after he got a job outside of Illinois, but stayed on as Park Commissioner until after the next election.
As reported by the Chicago Tribune, “If O’Brien had resigned prior to the December filing deadline, his unexpired term would have been on the April 7 election ballot.”
This action prevented Oak Brook voter choice, and was allowed by the Park District Board and Executive Director, many of whom are the same people endorsing and supporting my opponent today.
Let’s reverse this Oak Brook Park District culture of disrespecting Oak Brook residents by standing strong and voting for me, Tina Chan for Oak Brook Park District Commissioner at the April 1 election. I will put Oak Brook Residents First.

Read the write up on the Issue: Oak Brook Voters Missed Opportunity to Elect New Park Commissioner
The Oak Brook Park District ignored election results on a referendum. The Park District Board ignored 84% of Oak Brook voters who voted YES on the referendum to reduce terms to four years, in order to increase resident participation. There were over 4,250 votes cast in favor of the referendum!
Interestingly, the same Park District Commissioners who ignored the election results back then…are the same Park District Commissioners who are endorsing my opponent in this April 1, 2025 election. Vote for Tina Chan for Oak Brook Park District Commissioner, and she will listen to Oak Brook residents and Put Residents First.

Oak Brook residents and taxpayers are overtaxed by the Oak Brook Park District, paying $6 million to the Park District every year and they want more. The Park District could not legally tax us more if they wanted to as they demand the MAXIMUM tax levy from Oak Brook taxpayers every year, which is used to cater to non-residents. We welcome non-residents, but they should pay their fair share.
Make no mistake, the Oak Brook Park District is subsidized by the Oak Brook residents and taxpayers, NOT by non-resident fees.

I share with you my Promise that Puts Residents First.

The Park District Board changes its policies on lifetime commissioner memberships after my website goes public. For background, just days after my website tinachanusa.com is publicly released, the Oak Brook Park District Board at the January 20, 2025 board meeting, attacks my website calling it misleading and that I am spreading misinformation. My campaign website exposes the Oak Brook Park District for breaking state law. The Park District Board at the end of this meeting, quickly amends its administrative policies, in an admission of guilt, deleting exactly what I am exposing them on. Does this Park District Board operate with transparency?

Watch Part I.
Watch how the Park District Board attacks my campaign website and me, Tina Chan, a long-time Oak Brook resident and political candidate running for Oak Brook Park District Commissioner, during their public board meeting on January 20, 2025. This happened just days after I publicly released my website, www.tinachanusa.com. How is it that a government uses its apparatus to attack a political candidate in order to help their incumbent candidate?
