Millions Spent for Astro Turf Soccer Field?
It costs millions to maintain the one astro turf soccer field at the Park District. Non-residents are the primary users. Only one Oak Brook team has signed up to play on the astro turf soccer field. This could mean one player is an Oak Brook resident, and the other team members are non-residents. The Park District does not clearly track the resident vs. non-residents who sign up for teams.
The Park District actively markets to attract out-of-state teams and leagues to use the astro turf field, all while the resident taxpayer subsidizes the maintenance. It is hard to imagine that current non-resident fees for the astro turf field offset the costs to maintain the field, and for the cost to replace the soccer field every ten years after it reaches the end of its useful life.
